Last month I was able to find and buy a 150 gallon tank and stand on Craigslist for $400. To home my 2 LG ID Sharks in. Of course my husband wasn't happy with me spending that much but agreed non the less as long as I sold my 55 gallon to lessen the financial burden and I agreed. I put it on Craigslist for $200 and said I'll see what happens. Happy to me, I didn't receive any offers and I started to imagine all these great fish everyone keeps posting pics of on this forum! I had no idea such amazing fish existed! My husband unhappy, made me lower the price down to $150 and well today someone took me up and bought the tank :( I'm so sad now. I should have kept it although I really have no place to set up another tank. Now to convince my husband that I NEED to build the indoor pond in the basement for the IDs so I can use the 150 for all these cool fish I now want! I'm sure my husband would love to thank you all so much for showing me this new lifestyle I love so much!
My current new fascinations are the black ghost knifefish or the elephantnose fish! Not sure which one I love more since they can't live in the same tank so if I would have kept my old tank I would have had room for all of them.
I seem to like the oddball fish, feel free to share your pics with me or leave your species name so I can look them up! I seriously didn't know more fish could be kept then what Petco/Petsmart had...lol
Thanks-Amber

Start slow, a 150gal seems huge but it looks tiny when overstocked with fish! If its a 4'x2'x2' a BGK IMO would be fine although they are somewhat aggressive. Check out some peacock bass or dats and maybe a bichir. Look up member 'Strollo' s tanks for some inspiration! http://monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=557425

Also plants are way fun and help decrease waste but proper spectrum lighting and nutrients are required. Research and planning will go along way so you don't have to keep changing it down the road!

Main objective is have fun

×Go S. Vettel #1 Infiniti Redbull! 4x WDC!!! Congrats on another flawless title×

browsing MFK will corrupt you ;-)
It's almost impossible to settle on a single community mix that'll satisfy all your curiosity for various species. Study info about which mixes are most likely to work within your tank size limits.
If the husbands' interest gets piqued, it can become easier to expand a little.

Yeah it's 6' long. I needed the extra length for the IDs to swing across. They don't need the depth so much, so when I found this tank I had to have it. I didn't really give the husband the option. Before he knew it we were already in route to go pick it up...lol

As for corrupting me... haha
I think that happened the first day I found this site! Since then I'm always on my phone here. Reading basically everything I can, even about fish I don't care so much for. I guess reading everyone's experiences, regardless of species their keeping, keeps me above the average aquarist...lol. I'm obsessed, there's no better way to put it!

after your next upgrade, you'll keep the small tank too :-)
Always good to have a QT or something.

Ah, don't sweat it too much...a 55 makes a good grow out tank, but it cant house any monsters long term. Buy some pond liner and a shovel and tell your hubby to get to work...lol

I understand Amber but sadly blame can not go on the MFK crew. 8 years ago my wife bought me 2 gold fish for our anniversary. 8 years later on our anniversary we have 115 tanks up and running the trick getting your other half involved. My way was not keeping our gold fish tank clean enough. So my wife bought a 150 gallon tank to show me how it is done. Now we share the chores and are living happily ever after. This story should melt your husbands heart and allow you to have as many tanks as you want. One more little secret try real hard to buy tanks for around 1 dollar a gallon it is not that hard to talk people down in price usually. Glad to here you got your 150 how are your ID's doing
