I am waiting for my 6 RB piranha in an 80 gallon to start ripping at eachother as they get cramped. I thought one or two would die before they reached this size( 4 inches) but no dice there. anybody have experience selling fish to local pet stores? i know piranha are usually a hot sale at these places and they have trouble keeping them stocked. The place I'm thinking of sells gaunt one inch RB's for 20 bucks. I really don't want to have to let them kill eachother or set up another tank. i think this would be the best option. so yeah, do these type of deals occur, and if so, what do you think I could ask price wise for a four incher? I think they may be super reds, still very silver and red at this size. Thanks

It's going to vary from place to place. It'll depend on how bad they want it and how much they think they can get for it. What my LFS will take for one is going to be different then what your's will. Just call around and see who's willing to buy and if they have anything you want since you'll probably just get store credit. Or just give craigslist a try. There a guy in my town trying to sell a 7" black piranha for 250.

yeah, i would definitely try craigslist first as long as you don't mind waiting a few days, you will get way more in return than if you try to sell to your lfs. if they are that high-priced in your area, try selling them for $25 apiece or so and see if that works. trading in at your lfs can work out well sometimes if you have something specific in mind, but if they just give you store credit, they will probably give you ten bucks and then turn around and sell them for $50 apiece.

In my area no pet shops will buy fish, and very few will take them for free even unless they know you.
