I just bought a used aquarium and I don't want to keep the fish I was given. They are tiger barbs, VERY large and in good shape. I'm likely going to make a African Cichlid setup so I won't need them.

1. Do fish stores take fish? I'm not expecting to get much, but I just don't want the fish.

2. How much should I expect for 5 Tiger Barbs (albino), 1 Albino Rainbow Shark, and 2 clown loaches?

3. do Clown Loaches go well with smaller community tank fish? I know they are peaceful but they seem quite large compared to my platys, and tetras so I'm guessing it's a major no no.

Thanks.

try advertising here or craiglist about your fish.

Can't tell you about clown loaches since I never cared for them.

I trade in fish for credit a lot at the LFS. You should look into doing that. Usually a fair price to give you for credit is 1/3 of what they are going to sell it for. Some fish stores might low ball you thou and might give you less. Some might give you more depending on how the employee or manager is.

Usually if the fish you trade to LFS are pretty common, they either wouldn't take them or will give you next to nothing. The LFS does this because they probably have the same fish that you want to sell to them. Try Craigslist or just give them to someone, The Doctor

TBH the only fish you might make some money on would be the clown loaches. Don't expect anything for the others. They are very common fish. Large clown loaches can and do go for a fair price in most areas since they take so long to grow.

I trade it out for a diffrent at my lfs but ive been going there for years most dont buy them from you they might take them off your hands for free tho.

We very rarely "buy" fish, however we do trade-ins for store credit. Most LFS I"ve worked at have a similar policy. Usually we do 1/3 or so of what we'd sell the fish for. It varies depending on the fish though. For example, showing up with a huge redtail cat in a box (which happened recently) will likely get you nothing. Why? Because it's hard to sell, takes up valuable space we could use for something else, and costs a lot to feed.
