Has anyone from the US sold stingrays to someone in Canada where the rays are shipped to a US destination and the Canadian buyer drives to the US to receive the rays and then driven back across the border bringing the rays into Canada? Are there any special requirements needed from the seller to sell / ship the rays as described?

No, because in that scenario the seller would be shipping from a US destination, to another US destination. What you need to know is what your requirements are going to be when you cross the international border, back into Canada.

Actually, the link is titled: Travelling with pet fish: import rules

A buddy of mine in town used to import rays on a commercial basis in quantity, from the Netherlands, and I used to assist him with those shipments, and I have personally ran both import/export businesses, so I am somewhat familiar with both International sales, and importations of live fish. You need to have your ducks in a row and proper documentation when you enter Canada with your pet fish, don't expect that the F&W or Canada Customs are going to do your leg work for you. The requirements at that you are enquiring about will be on you, not the US based seller.

Agreed. The link indicates you have to declare the fish at time of crossing and only fish on the susceptible list need a permit unless they meet one of the conditions listed and they can be granted an exemption. Stingrays are not listed on the susceptible list. From what I understand, you do need documentation (invoice) for the fish indicating the species, origin, seller, quantity, amount, ect. There is a government website http://airs-sari.inspection.gc.ca/a...ath=/AIRS_External/english/decisions-eng.aspx a person can go on to determine if there are any special requirements for the species they are bringing in and to see if any permits are required. Over the years several times I have brought in fish for personal use driving across the border without any issues. I was wondering if anybody has had any experiences specifically with stingrays. I'm not commercially importing fish for resale, but for a private home aquarium use. I can see if one is bringing in large quantities for commercial use and resale that more documentation would be required. Thanks for the feedback and link.

For personal use, as in a hobbyist, there are no special requirements or permits for rays, outside of probably getting nailed for taxes on the purchase.

So I have also wondered this myself. I keep hearing that rays are cities listed. Would that affect our ability to bring them across the border to Canada? Or does that just mean more taxes?...

There are different levels of CITES (Appendix I, II, and III) and rays seem to fall under appendix III. See links below. Just enter stingray in the first link....
