Does anybody have one of these guys... the flag tailed characins, together with some polypteruses
I was wondering if just like with plecos they will eat the slime off my bichirs...
anybody?

I have a huge one (8-9 inches) with all of my poly's and my chili red aro in a 120G long. It leaves them alone..no slime sucking at all.. does a great job keeping the tank free of noticeable algae though. :D

i heard that they eat slimecoat to:screwy:.

It will vary from individual fish to individual fish whether they will eat slimecoat.Theres no hard fast rule as to whether any fish will eat slimecoat
it will depend totaly on the individual.Certain species of fish seem to display this activity more than others-Anne

well cuz im gonna order one from england... cqnt find one in holland... shud i maybe get a couple of them and make sue they dont suck sime n then sell the extras or if one does start sucking ill get rid of him...

or just take my chances with just the one and hope its not a sucker...

I had similar fears but I've found mine which i got at 4" and is now a good 9" to get on just fine and doesn't bother the bichirs at all, i have got the colombian variety and not sure if that makes a difference. I'm pretty sure it's just individual personality (and with my tank probably due to the large amount of available algae!). my one never stops eating. here's a pic:

yes that is the reason for the yellow fins.

seems like everyone else has a success story.... but i dont :(
my flag tail eventually went after my bichirs.

i agree with anne, it is mostly individualistic. so if i get another
chance i may try to get a flag tail again.
