Hi, I intent to set up a semi planted tank.

The tank which i picture, is filled with driftwood and bogwood.

Plants: Crypts and Ferns

Fish: Seabass, Tarpon, Dourado and Sebarau

I have previous experience for setting up a planted tank. However i do not know what type of sand would be good for this set up.

Suggestions are widely welcome.

Thanks,
Max

Hi Max, and welcome to MFK!

Sand is always a big topic here, I personally use playsand from a home improvement store  My Cryptocorynes like it a lot. Don't forget to add some substrate fertilizer, it helps greatly.

Your list of fish made me kinda curious ... could you give Latin names so that we are on the same page?

the pics are so good ive gone blind!!!!

Thanks for the warm welcome Harley,

Sorry abt that the names are,

Fish : Lates calcarifer (barramundi), Megalops atlanticus (tarpon), Salminus maxillosus (dorado) & Hampala macrolepidota(sebarau) ie: carp..

I'm not planning to use base fert as the Sebarau are already in the tank thus placing the sand inside will be a challenge. From my experience with crypt's, i realise that they dun really need alot of fert and the fish waste would be suffcient for them to grow. Besides Crypt's i plan to use java fern to add color to the set up.

Now wats left is the colour of the sand that suits the setup of a river bed.

I think a natural pale sand would set it off nicely, how big is the tank? Welcome to mfk by the way.
