well i come home from work sick,,, and i find my back round floating,,,,
need some help of how i can build an overflow or something so my
fish will not get sucked into my filter... i do not mind the look of the standpipes
but i need to figure out a way to keep the fish out... any suggestions/thoughts
would be greatly appreciated.

Cut pvc sleeves that will fit loosely over the current standpipes. I cut slots to allow water to flow into the sleeve and notches at the top to allow surface skimming. You can see in this pic, it's 1" standpipes inside 1 1/2" sleeves. I dremeled around the inside bottom of the sleeve so it slips down over the pvc elbow

pretty cool idea... so do you have slits at the top and bottom?

I stagger them, I put a set of slits at the bottom and another set near the top. It helps pull from different areas and get some silt from the bottom. We used this setup at the store I used to work for.
