right so as people know I have a 55 gallon and today I purchased a baby senagal Bichir about 4 inches, hes in there with my angle fish.so I have a few questions. So I was just wondering how big they will get? because different websites say different things I think they would grow around 8-10 inches someone please correct me if I am wrong.
The second is how long does it take for them to become full grown adults?
The last is what do they like best? I got shrimps, tubifex ,bloodworms and frozen brineshrimp and fish flakes if it helps?

Mine grew from 4 to 8 inches about 4 months, they can get to 20", although 12 - 14" is more likely. mine eats sinking food and are not fussy at all, cichlid pellets, massivore, etc. They love frozen fish, shrimp, lance fish, cut it into pieces small enough to eat.
There is excellent info on the Polypterus thread

If you get a sen that passes 10" that would be incredible. both of mine eat pellets and tilapia, but will eat just about anything I offer to them, they arent picky. I would get a high quality sinking pellet, tilapia, and the shrimp as a main diet.

I bought mine at 2" about 2.5 years ago it's in a 240 and eats meal worms, super worms, sinking carnivore pellets & chopped shrimp. It's about 7.5-8" maybe on a good day. Mine eats like a champ swims around the whole tank and gets very clean water. I've never seen one over 10" and 10" might be pushing it. I have no idea where that web info comes from but IME I have never seen them get close to that size.

Most web info suggests they can reach 12 inches in captivity. As you have read from the other posts that that is highly unlikely. Mine where on a similar diet as already stated. One thing no one mentioned is that are pretty peaceful. I kept mine in a 125g with other fish that where in theory edible size and they never bothered anybody but each other.
