Need a bit of advice, My largest senegal sometimes gets in to modes where he'll chase and try to snap at my smaller sens, he isn't big enough to eat them but he'll make pretty good runs at em. At first I'd have thought maybe he wasn't getting enough food, but his stomach looks about to blow up tonight and thats when he was doing it the most. I'm gonna try making some kinds of cave/structure to reduce aggression, but does anybody else have any ideas? I've never heard of anybody else on here having senegals that were aggressive towards each other, is this one just unnaturally aggressive? It's frustrating cuz one day they're in a pile and one day he's relentlessly chasing them :\

I had a somewhat similar issue with mine (I have two) I've noticed mine are somewhat more aggressive when they are in a tank that doesn't have very many plants and rocks and such, once i decorated my tank all of a sudden they seemed to be happy

of course if your tank is already decorated with lots of plants and stuff, this post wont help very much.

I'm not sure but I think that because of there terrible eye sight if theres lots of "stuff" around they may not really be around eachother as much

hope this helps

yeah that's kind of what i was thinking, Wish my driftwood would waterlog faster haha, in the meantime i'll probably make or buy some kind of cheapo cave

I have this same problem with my small guys. The one that is just a tad larger is often biting the tail and pectoral fin of the smaller one. I've witnessed this with my own eyes. It's normally during feeding time, they will both be near a piece of food, and WHAM! the big one eats the little one's fin. Other than that, they stay pretty separated.

I plan on going to Walmart to buy some fake plants to add to the tank. Right now it has driftwood, and a fake grass type plant that's floating. At night I see them both "hammocking" in the floating grass, but during the day, they are on opposite sides of the tank/driftwood.

yeah... im so impatient with this driftwood sinking haha, uhg

you could add more bichirs similar with similar size to your sen. Mine did that before, and it took sometimes before he settled down with the rest of my bichirs.

my tank with the bichirs has a lot of cheap crappy fake plants and rocks, it seems to make them act a little different, of course its possible that you have a fish that is just a jerk :)

He's just showing em whos boss. Try creating some caves for the little ones to take refuge while the big one can't enter. If he really attacks your smaller sen (damaged fills, nostrils, etc.), seperate

yeah so far no damage and he stopped for now, My little Del is about 3" and im trying to powerfeed him to get large enough to go in with the bigger guys, and my LFS is ordering me a retropinnis which should be in next thursday, so depending on the size he comes in he'll be able to go in the bigger tank and mingle with the sens

I have 3 bichirs. 2 albino (smaller) and a regular. (the regular is a lot bigger)... I have them in a planted tank with driftwood and a rock cave. The bigger guy will "nip" at times, but for the most part they stay apart...
