YES ITS COMON THEY ARE AIRBREATHER AND NEED OXYGEN TO SURVIVE. LIKE HUMANS DO. KEEP WATRTER LEVEL ALITTL LOW IN THE TANK TO PREVENT DROWNING IT. aLSO MAKE SURE THERES A LID FOR THE TANK OR THEY WILL JUMP OUT. tHEY CAN LIVE SHORT AMOUNT OF TIME OUT OF WATTER TILL THEY DRY UPFEED PELLETS. BLOOD WOR,S STUFF LIKE THAT
 
There is always one senegal chilling right next to the strainer at work every morning when I come it. I would take it as a normal habit.
They're the neatest little ****s.

I also just got a senegal and he also sticks to the top. I think when they settle down they will swim more. Have fun I know I am.

yup perfectly normal when young they are often found in plants close to the surface-Anne
