My Senegal bichir that I've had for roughly a year (she's in a 75tall) and a half has been acting strange past few days. She is about 7inches long and well fed on pellets and bloodworms.
Her light schedule is ambient sunlight during the day and lights of for about 6 hours after that.
She has been sitting on top of one of the submersible pumps thats just for creating a current. Last night I turned the heater down to keep tank at 75 instead of 78 to see if would change any behavior: resulted in more hanging around near surface.
I fed her a lot 2 days ago and was feeding little since then until this Morning when food lump was noticivly smaller. (didn't want her to bloat again). She's been alone in the tank for about 5 months due to a recent moving houses I did. is she lonely?
First pic is her hanging around surface, 2nd is her typical resting with plenty of swim activity. She doesn't seem to be sick, or injured. I'm curious if anyone else has experienced this.

It'll be fine senegals IME love to hang around the top. If you fed it a lot prior to it staying at the top it could be just that it wants to stay near the top to digest and get air since it's in a taller tank.

We have two senegalus and one delhizi. When we first got the senegalus, they BOTH liked to hang above the heater/behind the filter. They also displayed this behavior from the aquarium stores that we purchased them from. They all seem to be fine now, I think it's just normal polyp behavior :)

Oh yeah normal, my first one would do that w/ the top of the power head just over the surface, just resting its head and pectoral fins a lil out of water. Had pix on my old phone but this was like 6 years ago lol
