I'm thinking about adding a bichir to my 75 which is currently inhabited by my oscar, severum, rainbow shark and danios. The oscar is roughly 2-3 inches and the severum is around 1-2, while the rainbow shark is 4 inches. The danios were left over from cycling and I don't care about them. My question is how big should I get him? What is there growth rate? And do they eat at night or anytime? Because I had a peacock eel and it would only eat only at night, and even then only a little so I gave him away.

I got a sen last year on sep . he was around 4 inches , nw he is almost 10 in and feeds on anything , shrimp, and other meaty foods but his usual diet if hikari sinking gold. he eats at anytime .just make sure any other fish u have doesnt fit in his mouth .

Mine eat at anytime of the day. If they are hiding and they detect a new smell, they come out and go on the hunt. I usually feed during the day though, so I can keep track of what they eat.

My normal senegal grew from 3 inches to about 8 inches in less than a year. Growth was fastest in the beginning. After reaching about 7 inches, his growth really slowed down. I also bought mine in september. I just tried to measure him through the glass and I would say he is now 7 to 8 inches long.

I bought my albino in March at about 3 inches and now it is only about 4 inches. In that same 6 months my other bichir would have been at least 6 inches. This is my first albino, so I don't know if that is the cause of the albino's slow growth.

they eat anytime, alot of different things mine is on bloodworms, different kinds of pellet, krill and shrimp she loves it all :)
and they grow up to about 12", growth rate varies, I'd say get it at like 6" to 8" or something close to that as long as none fits in anothers mouth

you might have a little problem with your poly catching food, because they are really slow eaters, and the oscar you have eat like crazy, so if you decide to get one don't purchase anything under 6"
