Senegal bichir growth question

Do Senegal bichirs growth slow dramatically at around 6 inches? I have 2 CB albinos about 6.5” and a Delhezi around 9.5”, a few months ago all three were about the same size. They’re all eating good and are nice and fat. Just wondering if the growth disparity is normal. Parameters are good.The Delhezi is also CB. Here’s a vid of them

Mix of both, stay smaller and grow slower. Depends on the genetics. I’ve seen captive bred senegals hit 10-12inches. It’ll take a while.

I was just wondering cuz they were 2” and spaghetti thin when I got them about a year ago then the growth just hit the brakes. Glad to know this is normal thank you

I've experienced almost the exact same thing with my senegal and delhezi. I got my sen ~2.5 years ago, and I got my del 2 months after the sen. They were both about 2.5 inches long. Here's a recent pic of them today.



Sen is about 5" while the del is about 9" and twice as thick. Besides their time in a QT tank, they've had the same tank and diet.

Very nice del! My del was a bigger than the the sens, then the sens caught up until about 6” then the sens hit a wall.

Thanks! My sen was about 4" by the time I added the baby del in, and it didn't take long for the sen to hit a wall, and my del quickly surpassed in size.

Seems all polys have a wall they hit at some point. They will grow fast to that wall then slow down. Sens all seem about the same 6ish some smaller some slightly larger based of genetics as others have said. Most sens especially captive bred won't hit more the 10". I have a long fin that is about 8" now. It was 6" when I got it 2 years ago. My albino might be 6" I got her at a little more then an inch that was 4 years ago. I don't think she's grown in 3 years. On the other hand I got a new del in Feb that was about an inch in length it's about 4" now. Soon to go with the big guys!
