So I have two bichirs both are 3.5-4 inches. This morning they were acting fine. I get home around 5 oclock and one of my bichirs has red dots forming underneath its skin and its having a hella of a time breathing. I take it out and put it in a quaritine tank... it starts doing spinning like a top when it wants to swim. This one is not going to make it through the night. I am pretty sure unfortunately. I will take pictures tommorrow. And the same thing is just starting to occur to my albino bichir.

None of the other fish have been affected as far as i can tell. The water parameters are fine, and there are 16 other fish in my 135g.

I have read on the forum this is a parasite, that causes something called twirling/ whirling disease or something along those lines. I read Meth Blue will work, which I do not have but I am going to try and purchase tommorrow. Other people say nothing works. And this can not be a bouyancy problem because bichirs do not have swim bladders.

I want your guys/ gals opinions. On things that could possibly work. Thanks.
I hope my bichirs don't die. I love thier personalities

behavior is just like this goldfish(below), but my bichirs have red strations and dots forming. Not my fish by the way just an example

it's alright. bump bump anyone? any ideas for treatment

omg that looks nasty. i think you'd better to an internal bacteria meds course and see what happens. increase filter flow and add some salt..see what happens...other than its like a shot in the dark. i've never seen this either.

can you open up the bichir to see what's happened inside, maybe it will give you a few clues so you can save the others? or is it too sensitive for you to try? i lost a micropeltes a while back and it was filled with a tapeworm when i opened it up, thats how i know it died. if not there wasn't a mark on it.

yeah nervana i agree have never seen anything even close to this...it looks very painful...

i dont even know what id do ...it its that far gone you might just have to put him out of his misery...

so sad i love poly's i dont know what i would do if mine came down with this. let us know if you find out what it is.

i can crack open my albino poly. he just died today of the same thing. most depressing i will look for cause of death tmw. and i try anti parasite stuff and salt and raising the temperature. but it was too late unfortunately.

In case it's useful, Whirling Disease, Myxobolus cerebralis,if that's what you were thinking of, only affects salmonids - it's been suggested it might affect cyprinids too, but certainly not these sort of fish. This sounds like a very severe bacterial infection.
