Senegal bichir schools?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
My experience Pictus cats and Polypterus fight non stop. What tank size do you have? Senegals/Albinos, Delhezi, Palmas Palmas, Palmas Polli, Retropinnis, and Moke all would get along find. All will stay around the same size give a take a couple inches.

They do not school. Then again they do not try to get at each other's throat on first sight either. You can have them together in a tank (provided you have ample space). Just don't expect them to swim like a school of fish. They would be each minding their own business (except during the feeding frenzy). There would be territorial dispute but they are infrequent and usually ends quickly without injury.

I have 4 caves for my bichirs, but they all pile up inside the smallest one for some reason. So they are not schoolers but I think they like the company of other bichirs.

x2, i have 15 bichirs together and they all lie on top of each other at one end on the tank

polypterus are not too good along in schools especially the large specis such as the ornate and endilchis. you can keep a max 4to 5 polys in a large enough tank but thats all. they can get extremely agresive with other tankmates. I had a three 4 inch senegalus bichirs and they ganged up on a "so called fearsome" 7 inch wolf fish that i reciently got!!!! LOL!

thanks i know they did not school i was just wondering if they get along i guess that was my real question ha ha. i have a 55g with a pictus, i am going to try to get a senegal anyway and see what happens....

i have 2 pictus cats, one african cichlid and 2 polypterus in the same tank with an oscar, they have all been in there for a long time never had a single problem
