Have you tested your water?
Yes
If yes, what is your ammonia?
No, I don’t believe so.
If yes, what is your nitrite?
Nitrates were high so I did add a nitrate pad into the filter
If yes, what is your nitrate?
Not sure the guys that tested my water said it was pretty high.
If I did not test my water...
  1. ...I recognize that I will likely be asked to do a test, and that water tests are critical for solving freshwater health problems.
Do you do water changes?
Yes
What percentage of water do you change?
21-30%
How frequently do you change your water?
Every two weeks
If I do not change my water...
  1. ...I recognize that I will likely be recommended to do a water change, and water changes are critical for preventing future freshwater health problems.
image.jpgOk I got my Dino bichir back in March when he was 3”. I have him in a 3’x18”x18” tank by himself. Saturday night I noticed he was freaking out bad, panicking frantically.Normally I do a quarter water change every1-2 weeks but this time I let it go a month without changing the water so I did a 50% water change and cleaned the filter. I did talk to a specialist who said I shouldn’t have cleaned the filter at the same time because I got rid of thegood bacteria. Also said my nitrates were high. My filter was going out nd not creating enough air. I got a new replacement filter & air pump. I added the tank stabilizer & nitrate padding into filter to get nitrates lower. He has calmed down a lot but still doesn’t seem like his normal self. I noticed the slight color change on his tail and I’m wondering if this is something I need to worry about and how to address the problem. I’ve been using a tank stabilizer per directions on bottle & I have jungle aquarium salt to reduce stress but I’m wondering is there anything else I can do. People keep asking about his slime coat but I don’t know how to tell just by looking at him. Please help.

Slime coat is kinda like a shine on him, pinkness is usually caused by bacterial infection or sepecimia
