Hey all,
I have one 7" senegal bichir in a 30g growout tank. I decided to put in a 5-6" Marble Gar (not true gar), along with it. I woke up this morning and I saw his fins were a bit torn up, I watched it further when the senegal actually attacked it and tried to swallow. Immediately I began to tap in the aquarium to let him go and he did.
Anyhoo, I got a 5gallon tank that I have already added aquarium salt and an airstone. As of now, the gar is still breathing but floating on his side. I am doubtful hes going to make it. He is in the laundry room where all the lights are out.
Anything else I can do? Also, I dont know what I did wrong...by the size of the gar, there NO WAY the senegal can actually swallow it (almost same size, but the bichir is much fatter). In fact, I kind of got worried he might have chocked himself to death.
The bichir is extremely well fed on a variety of diet; bloodworms, pellets, brine shrimp and night crawler.
One last thing, anybody have any suggestions for a new tankmate?
Many thanks!
