Hello Peeps, i bought a senegal bichir last october he was about 10cm long. That was nearly a year ago an he's only about 15cm now. Do they usually grow this slow? All my other fish have shot up! Im feeding him; earth worms, bloodworm, trout, cichlid and carnivore pellets. He's got a greaqt appetite ............. im confused!

I have to say mine tripled in size with in months.
but he was VERY small when I got him.
I don't know what 15 cm's is but I think they only hit around 12 inches.

ok I see 10 cm is like almost 4 inches.

all I can think is that he wasn't fed very well as a juvie and his growth was stunted.

Maybe he's just a runt!!

haha! 15cm is 6 inch's i forgot yous dont use the metric system! 2.5cm to an inch (so you know for nxt time) :) :) :) Wot ru feeding yours on? ps . Dont call my fish a runt! he's a "fine specimen of a runt" :D

hah!

Well, I guess my b/f feeds mine since that tank is at his house!!

but he gives them shrimp pellets, live black worms and cut up frozen raw shrimp!!

He eats SO much he looks like he's going to explode!

He's seriously one of the thickest little senegals I've seen!:hearts:

Mine looks as though he's been eating gravel or pebbles or somthing, except there aint any in his tank. He may shoot up 1 day if im lucky, if not my tyre track eel might swallow him!!!! Or not!!!!!!!!

Sine P.senegalus are farmed and I have doubts about the gene pool genetis can play into the ultimate size and or growth rate-Anne

I had a senegal just like that.
I got it when it was around 3 inches.... in about a years time (maybe longer) it only grew 1 inch. Every once in a while it also looked like it had eaten gravel and had the occasional bloated stomach. It eventually stopped eating and died, i think that something was wrong with it from the first place

id like to see pics, im not even sure what kind of fish ur talking about......lol
