does anyone know how to sex these cool fish? I have 2 unsexed fish, can't post pics due to the fact that I'm doing this from my phone, will get some up as soon possible, but they are both about 6-7 inches. what size do they breed at and what are the conditions they prefer? they are currently in a 70 gallon planted tank with 60 other small fish (tetras, barbs, loaches, eels and a pleco) any info, other than about my tank being overstocked, is welcome

i dont think i've ever seen anyone able to breed sens in a home aquarium. but i think you check thier anal fin? if its more rounded its a female and if its more pointed its a male. im not to sure if thats correct, but anyone feel free to correct me.

that seems logical, that seems to be the case with a lot of fish, I don't doubt it...im at a friends house right now and he too has 2 senegals, one has a rounded fin and the other is slightly pointed, ill have to check mine though...

Senegals are not hard to breed. I spawned them on and off for a couple years. I have pics of the fry still with external gills and some egg pics somewhere. I'll try dig em up. The hardest bit is getting a viable male in my opinion. This could be to a number of factors, but I think males do take a bit longer to mature then females. Or it may be sperm transfer that is the problem. I was never too sure.

Create a pseudo wet season. Drain tank half way down, limit feeding, slightly increase the tank temp. Do a water change with cool water and increase feeding again. I made a drip tray that would slowly fill the tank and emulate the dropping of rain. Worked 9/10 for me.
