Senegal breathing air?

hey everyone i had my sen for almost 3 months and he still surfaces for air... is that normal for them to do that?
 
They have to, or they drown.

I think that most senegals do surface sometimes. The question is: how many times an hour is he surfacing? Mine does it when dinner is being served and i see him hit the surface a few times a day. If he's surfacing too often, that might just be a sign that you might have a water quality issue.

not sure. i only see him surface when he does it lol. i though only baby sens did that.

It depends on your tanks oxygen... If your tank is on low oxygen level your bichir will breath air often...
 
No infact just the opposite, young have external gills as to reduce the risk of Predation Above/Below the water. We don't see EG on Sens anymore because of how long they've been CB. Adults will surface more often as they do not have external gills....BTW, the proper term is asphixiation (sp) not drowning
