I've got a senegal (Little Buddy) who has, in the last month, started to develop brown speckles all over his body, more toward the dorsal side. His activity/attitude hasn't changed at all, and he still eats like a pig, so I don't think that it's any type of disease. The spots are very small (maybe a millimeter), random, nothing protrudes from them, the edges of the spots are very clean, and they appear to be under the scales as opposed to being on or going through the scales. I was just wondering if anybody else has seen anything like this....

Additional information for troublshooting
1. I bought him approximately 4-5 months ago, has grown from 3" to about 7"
2. I did notice that the speckling started around the time that I introduced the CAE, but the glow-side tetras appear to be fine.

Any ideas? I'm sure it's no big thing...

Nope... he's got those, too... they're about three times the size... they look like freckles and their locations are random... think that's a bad sign, then? I'll have to snap a pic or two when I get a chance on Monday...

I haven't seen one like what you've described on my senegal or other people's senegal. You should definetly take pictures of it. Could it be your CAE trying to suck on the senegal's slime coat?

I have noticed the same thing on mine....I have had them for about 6 years now, and they are very healthy. I think they are just as you said..."freckles" I don't think you need to worry about them.....

That's what I was wondering, but these spots appear to be under the skin, and they're much smaller than the CAE's mouth. The CAE's mouth is probably 2 centimeters wide, and these marks are (making an amendment to my original post) probaly about half a centimeter wide. Take the spots in the pic you posted, put them in a 4x4 cluster, and that's probably pretty close... sorry i can't get a pic taken sooner... :(

jenBLKAROWANA... so you think that these spots might just be linked to age rather than possible disease? I mean, I won't be happy until Sunday night when I take a picture of them and then post it for you guys to check out, but it does make me feel a little bit better...

Here's kind of an idea how the size of the spots.... (color isn't right... the color of the spots matches the normal spot coloration you pointed out earlier...

your water chemistry might have changed slightly or something, I know when I added some coral to make my water a bit harder my senegal got a nicer darker color:)
