Senegal Growth rate

Ok I got a senegal bichir at petsmart about a month or so ago. I know you're supposed to research fish before you buy them, but i really liked the way he looked, and decided to buy him anyway. I soon realized that he was definatly not a community tank fish, and would need a bigger tank soon. My question is how soon. I have him in a 20 gallon right now, which i know is way too small, but he's still really small. I'm gonna be moving into an apartment next semester and will have enough room to get a 50 gallon. Thats gonna be the biggest tank i'm gonna be able to buy. Is this gonna be big enough for just the senegal and will he be fine until august, or should i just find a new home for him now, as petsmart won't take him back?

Mine grew quite slowly, you should be fine til you move. A 50g is good for one, could even have a tank mate.

would a peacock eel, a needle fish, and a senegal fit in a 50? or would that be pushing it

Forget the needle fish it would be food.
