Hi I have two Senegals and the larger one has been really aggressive toward the other lately. It started around one group of plants and only there but now it's anywhere they meet. I've seen many other fish that fight when there are two but in larger groups get along. Is this true with Bichirs? I wouldn't mind picking up another Sen at all, I'd just have to shop around to find one that wasn't tiny.
Also My larger Sen seems to developing quite a hunch. He's still moving normally and eating plenty but I worry. Are spinal issues common? I've seen several bichirs on here with crazy humps and what not. I've been trying to get pics but he doesn't want to cooperate.

sometimes bichirs are quite aggressive towards each other
this used to happen with my 2 biggest ornates among the group of 10 bichirs in their grow out a 100g tank, after i moved them to the 225g there were no more fights as there was more room and more hiding places for the bichirs

increase the hiding places and this might just solve your problem :)

It's only a 29g right now. I'm waiting til the end of the year when my roommate moves out to get a bigger tank and use his room. I know that's small but they're still between 3 and 5 inches so they have plenty of room to move around. I'll be getting a 125 for them very soon though.

That is probably why then. 29gal is a small blueprint.

They may work it out once dominance is established. I would add a lot of hiding spots though.

My del and ornate were in a 10gallon growing out and the fought daily. They were only a couple inches each. Moved them to the main tank and they fight like once a month tops.

It all started around one group of plants so I added more on the other side but now he's doing it everywhere. I'll add another cave and planted spot and see how it goes.

From what i've experience and read, bichirs can tend to be pretty mean to eachother if there is only the two of them. Best fix for aggression seems to be bigger tanks and/or more bichirs.

Ok the aggression has subsided a bit but the spinal issue got buried in all that, so here are some terrible pics but you can see a definite lump behind his head.IMG_2000.JPG

Bump. Anyone got any ideas on what's going on with his neck or how concerned I should be?
