was just discussing on another forum the max size of senegals...

according to beblondies sticky it is around 12"? but this other dude claims to have read online after googling that 20" is the biggest ever recorded senegal???

i have never seen one bigger than 12" and i wouldnt have thought that even in the wild they could reach 20"?

So... any ideas?

I have had mine for a LONG time. Nearing two years and is about 7" but is fatter then a hotdog lol...... Was kept in a 90g for some time then moved to a 55g, eats a ton of carnivore pellets and raw market shrimp

I have a pair of senegals that I've kept for the past 1 1/2 years. They are currently 9 1/2-10" with the female twice the girth of the male. Growth does slow substantially past the 8" mark, although they both eat well and are very active.

If you are trying to gauge max size to plan tank space, I think it is safe to say they average 12" max, with a few big specmens to maybe 14".

There has been some discussion that the WC 20" er may have been a subspecies. If I were fortunate enough to luck into one of those, I'd fork over the extra dough and buy it a big home:D

yeah it was believed that P. senegalus meridionalis is the bigger subspecies, thats probably where the 20" came from. but there hasn't been a specimen of one and as a result its believed that this subspecies may be invalid.

but yeah most of the ones we have in the hobby (almost all farm bred nowadays) average out to 10"-12", though i've seen pics of larger wild caught ones.
