Just thought I'd share how things are going with my Senegal Bichirs. Had some on going issues with their tank (algae and aggression), but changed the layout and reduced the tanks stock and things seem to be looking better now. Haven't been able to get true measurements but my female I'd say is over 7" now and getting fat, my male is slightly longer but still under 8" I believe .... but my finless rescue is at least 6" now, and I'm 90% sure it's another female.
The aggression issues in the tank, dealt more with the other tankmates. The Red Tailed Black Shark and African Butterfly Cichlids were the issues .... so the Cichlids have been removed. Also changed the layout of the tank ... once again. But these last changes have been for the better as my Synodontis Ocellifer has become more visible swimming around the tank and such. In fact, it's even reclaimed it's status as "The Boss" of the tank ... nice bite mark on the side of the Sharks tail.

Here's some pics of the tank and tankmates ... sorry for the dirty glass.

My finless rescue Senegal ... as I said 90% sure it's another female.

A picture of the tank today, have to replant one of the Red Wendtii in the back left corner. Someone decided to yank it out. (Plus this is the best pic I could get of the Red Tailed Black Shark)

Now the other tankmates
The Red Tailed Black Shark (2nd best pic of it ... but a cool shot of my finless rescue and female Senegal)

I like the layout now, as there's places only the Bichirs can go through. I swapped out the 2x AC70's for a AC110 instead, (although I've noticed a reduction in flow). Planning on adding a Tetra Whisper EX30 HOB, I've got kicking around and never used, and converting it into a plant holder for a little extra flow in the tank.

Thanks ... Actually the fin-less Senegal manages quite well. It doesn't have the full spectrum of speeds the other Senegals have, mainly just 3 speeds ... still (perched on something), languid/glide and super fast. As for feeding never been any issues. It's almost like the Male and Female are aiding it at times.

My female is my original and most personable of the 3, she normally eats first. I've watched her push the Male out of the way countless times for a specific pieces of massivore or shrimp pellet. Whereas I've seen at times the fin-less one come up afterwards and my Female would allow it to take the piece instead. Normally the Male Sen. eats last.

Needless to say, the fin-less Sen. does spend more time on the bottom of my tank than the other 2, although I'm starting to see it suspend itself in the above plants roots a little more. But when it's out and about swimming, it's an enjoyment to watch.

I have a Senegal that is missing only the fins on one side. They have a certain way of swimming dont they, Kind of snakelike :)
Nice Setup and fish!

With the absence of both fins .. it is a true serpent in the water. The way it utilizes its tail to twist it around and propel it forward ... just proves the adaptability that it possesses. Meanwhile it cannot hover in an area of the water like my other Senegals, should it be stationary it must be perched off of something. Using just enough of it's tail that I haven't been able to make a 100% confirmation on it's sex.
