How large should my tankmates be to be safe from my sen or ABK? I was planning on doing a "nice" SA tank with my sevs, juruparis etc, but I'm thinking I'll go ahead and add my sen and ABK to the mix. I'd assume that eliminates any large tetra shoals or cory shoals, but how big will my other fish need to be? I've had the sen for 9 months and he doesn't seem to be growing (he's maybe 7").

i have a jack dempsey an 5 convicts with mine plus 2 african cichlids

3"+ should be relatively safe. 5"+ would be better. That said my smallest senegal took down a congo tetra more than half her size seemingly "just because". There's always gonna be a risk and it comes down to individual temperment and the speed of the smaller fish :D

good luck

Thanks. I may try some wide-bodied tets like bleeding hearts or blackskirts then, or congos. There's also a pinktail chalceus in there who might pick off little tets too.

i wud be more worried about the sen. i had a 6" sen take out and eat a 3" glass cat
and a abk that didnt even eat a 1 inch glolight tetra

Asides from the Tetras mentioned, you can also try to go with some Angels or Gouramis as well.

Cories are a definite no then? Even large armored cats like brochis?

So black skirt tetras can go with senegals long term?

Cories are a definite no. Sooner or later the sen will try to eat one, choke on the spines, end result: both dead.
