Hey guys, bought a senegalus and a teugelsi, about 8 months ago, tried housing them in the same tank, started with a 30 long, then 75 and even my 125, regardless which tank i put them in together the senegalus attacks the teugelsi non stop.

So fast forward to yesterday, i bought 2 more bichirs, a koliba lap, and a "congicus".

Well upon looking closer, it's a second senegal. So I put the koliba, "congicus" and a new palmas palmas into a 75 gallon tank by them selves with a baby Odoe pike. Guess what....... the senegalus is a devastator again, Already took a hunk out of the koliba tail and won't leave the palmas alone. Long story short i now have 2 senegals together because for some reason both are "**** disturbers" and i can't seem to get either to relax around other polys.

Anyone have any tips to quell aggression? How about does anyone else have the same issue with agro senegalus?

My Senegalus do this to any new additions sometimes, they follow them around constantly and nip at them from time to time. My large ornates also do it. In my experience they loose interest after a week or so and then things settle down again. Also once or twice a year they'll get worked up and pester long term tankmates nose bumping and some nipping just being generally annoying and that's normally followed by courtship/breeding behavior. But for the most part once they get used to a new tankmate they loose interest and are very peaceful.

It helps to provide several hiding spots of various sizes, some narrow spaces where one bichir can fit but alone and escape the others.

hope that helps.

My poly tank of 10 does not show any signs of aggression, the ornate is the smallest member.

how is the tank setup? if there are caves and such that may be territorial aggression, if you keep them w/o spaces like that theres less of a chance of it happening

My cb 6" sen never stops bothering my 13" ornate. My 7" wc sen nips the fins of my delhezi and palmas polli. I rearrange my rock work every 2 months, because I see aggression start at around 6 or 7 weeks.
