Senegalus with eye spot

Recently saw a larger (9") probably male (from anal fin) senegalus with an eye spot on its tail. Thought it was curious since I have seen quite a few but none with a tail spot before. Thoughts?

I will probably just go pick it up tomorrow. Dunno why I didn't just get it in the first place. If I get it I will post some pics. Didn't look like a defect (disease, etc.), just a very clear black spot on the tail of an otherwise normal looking (albeit a little dark) senegalus, store labeled them Polpyterus palmas.

$15... kinda pricy, but it would be hard to find another this size, near me. It was in a tank with normal looking senegalus, hope I'm not mistaken about the spot, but I watched it for a little while. I will probably pick it up regardless, since it is a lot darker than the one I already have (a female) anyway.

Ok, I picked it up today. Was not as big as I originally thought (I guess from the myopia of seeing it in a small tank with smaller bichirs). He's around 7". Here are the pics.

how many can u keep in a tank? do they mix with pikes? or wolf fish? i have a 125gal. about to pickup an ornate and already have a cincta pike and a jag.
