I noticed the other day some swelling near my senegalus anus. Some reddening but not really too bad. I was thinking to treat with pimafix what do you guys think? Shes about 3 years old but is only 6.5" in length, she is still eating well and acting normal. 38 gallon, 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, 7.2 ph, 25 nitrate. 82 degrees. I actualy first noticed this after treating the tank with praziquantel mainly as a preventative.

Any reason you thought the Prazi treatment was necessary?
Might not be anything serious but I've observed a swelling of the anus to be a syptom of camallanus infestation. Shortly after the red bristly worms begin to protrude.
Unable to see what the deal is I can't really say that's what it looks like so I wouldn't want you to get worked up over something that might not be as serious (or annoying/frustrating).

What are you using for substrate? and can you post a pic?-Anne

sorry no camera, I treated with the praziquantel because I felt the polypterus may have internal parasites as she is 3 years old and is only 6.5" even though shes shown no signs. And once a year I treat with internal parasite meds to use as a preventative anyways. I use about pebble size gravel for the substrate and have used it over the last 3 years.

Today I noticed almost all of the reddening is gone but it is still swollen and where it was red it almost seems lighter then the rest of her body, but not by much.
