ok, you may have seen my previous threads about 'clean up crews'?? but now i really ned somthing... there is quite a bit of fish poo on the sand in my archers tank... so i was thinking of mabye these... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7760524608&rd=1&sspagename=STRK:MEWA:IT&rd=1 perhaps 5 to start with.... but please anything anyone even THINKS may work... really need to know soon, as this could start to turn bad and start effecting the fish healt... allas i think that the fact they sometimes eat3 crickets a day means more waste... so i will cut them back to 1 a day or as a treat....everyother day... it is actually insane how many they can eat... it must be physcially impossible but they manage it somehow!! anway thnaks for looking.

(EDIT) was also thinking of these http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7759350162 but i doibted they would cope with the brackish water: 1.0004? any ideas? its just it says they are good at burrying in the gravel and getting all the gunk out of there... would they do this in sand? thanks.

Neither of the snails, or any other animal, will rid you completely of the waste problem. Nothing will consume fully metabolized organic matter since if provides no benefit. The nerite snails will consume any matter that holds nutrient and break up the rest so your filter can remove the remainder of the material. A more efficient tankmate for managing a cleanup role would be a scat. Their genus, Scatophagus, literally means sh@teater. Scats, also, will not consume waste with no nutrient. However, they're highly efficient substrate sifters that will churn the sand and break up the waste pieces for easy removal by the filter.
