I recently bought a Trimac from a local pet store and in the process of being captured the salesman injured the part that covers the gills, it's like bent backwards. So when you look at that side you can clearly see his gills. It's bent back like about 3cm. I don't know how serious this injury is but he is eating, swimming and interacting fine with other fishes. He is showing healthy behavior even with the injury. Will it heal deformed permanently? Or can he die from this?

I don't think he'll die but I'd keep him isolated for now for possible infections. If you feel it necessary, do small daily water changes just to be safe to prevent possible infections.
