I picked up a flowerhorn about a month ago who has tons of potential but I cannot seem to get him to eat any pellets. He hasnt gotten any bigger in the last month and I am starting to get worried. Pretty much the only thing he eats are frozen blood worms and even that he takes way to slow.

Even when I starve him for a couple days he will take the food, and play with it in his mouth for a little bit then spit it out. I even have a blood parrot in the tank with him that eats everything but the flowerhorn has doesnt care. Anyone have any suggestions?

Have you tried NLS, hikari pellets, frozen shrimp, etc? Starve him for a week and raise temperature to 86F. By then he'll take anything. Good bye MFK.

He might be developing some kind of internal illess, or being stress, if not eating for long period, even a healthy FH will get sick for not getting enough nutrition. Start checking on your water now, just my suggestion.

i had a fader that was picky...he wouldn't eat pellets...& i tried starving him many times...but he would eat fbw, ghost shrimp, & feeder guppies...Sold him to a friend & same thing...he didn't eat pellets & he ended up dying...i'm guessing due to an internal problem...

It has nothing to do with internal problem in this case here. And the reason is because if it eats something and doesn't want to eat another food. Then just starve your stubborn FH. Bump the temp up around 83-86 and starve your flowerhorn for 48 hours without feeding him. After that, test him with 1 pellet see if he will eat it. If not, go for the 3rd day. Try this first see what is the results...

P.S. - The more you give it to them, the harder it is to wean them off of it. Care sheet says they'll eat anything, and that is just plain BS.
