Why do people always over price fish tanks on craigs list? Used 150 gallon tank i just seen. No stand for $400........ What ever happened to the 50 cent a gallon rule for used tanks? Last I heard new tanks go for roughly $1 a gallon and used for 50 cent per gallon. I'm talking just the tanks, nothing else with them.

Where do you all find good sized used tanks?

They probably want close to retail as possible.

Yeah I know what you mean. I have saw some pretty good deals on there but also some horrible ones. Like a 55 gallon freshwater setup for 2,000 dollars!

Then it must've been awhile since you've purchased either a new OR used tank. Even Petco won't sell you a new tank for $1/gallon above 29 gallons (and even then only on a few days a month when they have that sale).

When I look for deals on CL, I tend to look for around the $1/gallon for used tanks. Anything significantly lower than that I consider a steal.

Go to your local freecycle on yahoo and post an add for the size tank you want and get it for free. I just got a 20 gallon long with an iron stand that holds 2 tanks for free. I see them advertised all the time on freecycle. Someone somehwere is usually willing to give it to you for free rather then throw it out or keep it forvever in thier basement.
Granted you wont usually get a brand new looking tank for free on freecycle, I had to clean mine up a bit but it holds water and there are fish in it now. So I guess free was good enough for the liitle work I put into it.

Freecycle is how I got my 125 gallon tank. I always monitor several groups near me for them.
