im curious because its seams a little bit that my serrasalmus maculatus are a bit stunted and was curious what food i could feed them to increase growth rate. i feed them market shrimp, leeches, feeders on occasion (usually just deceased fish that could be put to better use). sometimes beefheart if i have it on hand. what could i feed them more that would give them what they need to grow bigger?

oh and tropical flakes and sometimes pellets.

What makes you think they are stunted? Macs are one of the smaller adult size Serras. Also being a Serra. growth rates are nowhere near as fast as Pygo. The only things I can think of to increase growth rate which might or might not work could be water volume and oxygen - larger tank size, increased filtration, and O2 circulation thru a powerhead. Thats not saying what you have is insufficant - tank size or filtration. It just seems to me that fish grow faster in larger overfiltered bodies of water but never garunteed. As for Foods theirs a whole sticky regarding Piranha nutrition.

good food and excellent water will aid the growth, of course the tank needs to be big enough as well.
also try to include some white fish meat (tilapia, bass, catfish, perch, etc) in its diet, whole fish (smelt, silverside, etc) would be best. they do eat mostly fish in the wide after all.

yea, i know. they're in a 75 gallon tank with two under gravel filters and an oxygen bar.

are the two undergravel filters the only filtration you have in that tank?
personally I'm not a fan of undergravel filter, they use gravel as filter media and once it's clogged you'll have to take everything out to clean it.
HOB or canister are much easier to clean and are far better than undergravel filter, IMO.
maybe more money but are better in the long run. or you can make a DIY wet/dry, very easy and won't cost you much.

yea, i was going to replace the under gravel filters with two emperor 400's but i haven't gotten around to getting my fx5 for the bigger tank so i can take the filters off.

AC110 are 80$ or you could get 2-AC70's for under 100$ IMO undergravel filters are junk.the added current from a hob will increase your fishes activities n thus they should eat more also. I'd scrap the ugf ASAP.a lot of crap n ect collect under there, can't be good for the health of your fish. IMO anyhow

yea, i might as well trash the undergravel, i need to upgrade my filtration anywho.
