Hello !

Im owner of 4 inches baby elongatus. Im keeping my elong in 80 galons tank. He is the only fish there.
And here comes the question. Is there any fish(preferably catfish/pleco) that is good at algae eating and possibly parts of dead feeder fishes ?
Ive tested my water and everything is perfect. Water is clear and stream is provided.
Would be the best if that fish wont grow bigger than 8/9 inches.
There is not so much of algaes in my tank, but id like to take them off in natural way.

Any help appreciated !

edit: i need exact specie sugestion.

whats the scientific name of that snails ? And wont they outnumber my aquarium like a plaque ?

Regards.

Since nobody said anything about it & I forgot. You shouldn't be leaving remains of dead fish or any uneaten food for that matter for any lenght of time in the tank.

Assassin snails would starve in a P tank. They only really eat other snails, and left over food. Since in predator tanks you only feed fish, the snail would run out of food.

I say cut down on the amount of lighting and do more frequent water changes because that will take care of the algae much better than a pleco.

I do agree with the lighting being a common cause of Algae - too much direct sunlight, too high wattage, and old bulbs can all cause certain types of algaes to bloom however they are not the only cause.

You are mistaken about Assassian snails they eat just about anything including each other. I have breeding colonies in all 5 of my Piranha tanks and they are far from starving too death. Best clean up crew I've come across for Piranha whom are notoriously messy eaters with an extremely diverse diet.

i got 60W in 80 galon tank so its not a lot of light, i think its because im not having any fast growing plants, im keeping anubiases only(around 20 modarate/big ones). And the substrate is good, maby thats why. But i dont care at all.

Also, i know basics, its not my first aquarium. Im not leaving any uneaten parts of feeder fishes. But always there is something that i might miss.

Ive purchased 4 snails, they are doing well, elong was trying to eat one but fortunetlly snail was to big to swallow :)

Regards.

Besides... any1 knows the diferences in shape of piranha acording to river where fish comes from ? Im interested in elongatus body shape diferences.
