Question: Can this species of piranha stay in a 51(48"x13"x19") gallon tank for life I am picking one up today but before I do I wanna be sure that I have the right size tank to house it in.
2 in the same tank??LOL. must of been a miracle. elongatus are one of the most fearsome and aggresive specis of piranha. they virually cannot have tankmates, regardless of size. the elongutas will just rip it's tankmates up, piece by piece if it has to. As caribemob said, a 75 gallon would be the minimum tank size for one for life. Elongas might be small but they are one of the most active and speedy piranhas and fish around (hence its torpedo shape). Maybe a 50 gallon would be good now but one they get spooked (elongs are very skittish fish) they will bump around the small tank and injure themselves. If you plan to put ur elong in a 50 gallon (temporarely i hope) make sure the tank has a lot of strong currents (to make them feel less skittish and "more space to swim in"). Hope it helps.I would say you will be fine with an elong in that tank, I had 2 before and they both did fine in 4ft tanks.
I would say know ,elongs need at least a 75 gallon tank IMO. They are very active and need the space. My elong is in a 5' 120 gallon
2 in the same tank??LOL. must of been a miracle.
Hey thanks all for the support I appreciate the help. Might I add he has gained much girth in the past couple of days, I've had him under my supervision being fed choices of food every 6-8 hours. He's holding up well greedy little guy loves to eat alot i currently feed him the blackworms, bloodworms and tilapia as well as Hikari krill and was given his last danio as of today.Stay tuned for some videos in the vid. and piranha section.
