Hey guys, I'm a new member to MFK but I've used this site for a long time when I have questions. I'm also not new to piranha keeping but I've only kept red bellies.

Now I realize piranhas aren't for new fish keeping cause they take a bit of work. I've had my natties for 2 years and I know it's been well worth the invested time. With that being said these fish are relatively hardy and can deal with changes in water condition pretty well. I want to move on to serras now though. I would really like a big rhom when I get the money but that will be once I'm out of college. I'm starting to research them now though. I was just wanting to know if these fish are as hardy as the Pygos I have or if there are any major care differences other than only 1 to a tank and tank size.

Thanks for all your help! -Cooper

Hey Cooper,

Welcome.

Rhoms are just as hardy as pygos but if you get a really large one there's always a risk that it might be an old fish but generally speaking if the fish itself is healthy and sound when you received it you shouldn't have any issue taking care of it. Manueli is a specie that is a bit more sensitive in general that all piranhas are pretty tough.

One of the most important requirement when switching from pygo to serr is patient, a solo serra can be boring at first before it comes out of its shell, aside from that the basic care would be same as rbps.

If your LFS carries them on a regular basis just keep an eye on their stock. Most of the smaller ones seem fairly timid but our LFS just got a 4" rhom that's extremely active and personable. Whenever someone walks by the tank he comes to the front to watch and would actually follow your finger around. Great little personality on that guy compared to the others.

Thanks for the good info guys. Unfortunately my LFS is way behind most haha but there are some near by bigger cities that I'll start stopping by and checking. Thanks again guys. Much appreciated.

My rhom was about as easy to care or as my rbp's. The rhom was a bit shy when I first gt him but within a few weeks, it became very personable.
