about ready to start putting the 120 together... im thinking of painting the back and sides black, but im worried it will darken the tank to much? planning on useing a rough natural sand ( same stuff my rays are on atm) and moving the dw from the current set up. im thinking itll be too dark... but what if i add some java fern or anubius on the dw for some color? im big on the natural set up... but i want to compliment my cuban and floridas colors/patterns.

All my tanks are moderately planted with black substrate and wood decor. I want to say letting the algae grow on the non-viewing panels helps with the ambiance, but I'm just really lazy. It requires a little extra lighting, but all the fish I've kept in this style look amazing. Dark = awesome, IMO.

Go With It!

Hmm... maybe i'll buy a aquarium backing and try it first... i just don't want to paint and have to scrape it... ugh... Jaws looks pretty keen with the grey walls of the basement and the natural sand/dw now. it brings out his olive green coloration real nice. why I was thinking black would be nice.

check out my 125 blacked out tank in my tigerfish thread for how it will darken the tank up. i just have a 4' led light on it 6500k. i like how it looks with 6' of light in it. not a problem with being to dark. all the colors pop with this style.
