She who must be obeyed has offered me a 150gal tank for Father's Day:jaw: I plan on rehoming my RD, JD, Orange Pike and Common Pleco there. I think i could add maybe 1 more good sized Fish to the mix. Any Suggestions?

If you had the right setup: driftwood, rocks, plants, etc, you could add much more than 1 fish. I would go with a big GT or maybe a couple of sevs.

I guess i need to provide more information: Decor would be approx 160lbs of gravel real bogwood, real rocks and caves and fake plants (cuz i know they will get dug up). leaning toward a fluval fx5 cannister filter, 2 bubble walls and 2 airstones and 3 200 watt heaters.

I have a GT in my 90 gal growing up with another JD, RD,JAG, and Mayan Cichlid (thanks Peanut Power:ROFL: ) they will be going into a larger tank by the end of the yr so i dont want to do anymore duplicates. I want some new Monsters to Raise:D

Hey Peanut Power could i add another Pike to the mix.

Just a thought but you might not need that much gravel - possibly scale it back to at least 100 lbs and see if you have enough coverage but not too much. Sediment will collect and decay and cause problems with water conditions if there is too much gravel. My guess is the 150 is a 6' long x 24' deep ?

The only fish i could quickly think of that might work would be a Texas Cichlid. You will have battles with what you got now, and what ever pecking order depending on who grows the fastest.

Excellent choice going with the Fx5 - its the best I have seen or ever had. Currently its doing excellent in a 220 gallon.

Good luck and show some pictures when completed

That might not be too much gravel, depending on which type you use. I use ordinary playground gravel from the local landscape rock place and it works great even with JD's. It's a lot heavier though and hard for them to dig up, so I'm able to have Amazon Swords and larger Crypt varieties in with mine. Just a suggestion.

I was always taught 1lb of gravel per gallon of water. and i vaccum my gravel with each Bi-Weekly water change.

How about a Convict, Firemouth, or a Salvini. I have looked at these before and really like the Firemouth, and the Convict.

The less gravel you have the easier to clean. alot of tanks have the same base footprint, but their volume changes the higher the tank is. But the goal is to just cover the bottom, not in relation to the volume of water.
I have a 220 now, no way would I want 220 lbs for gravel - the foot print for my tank on the bottom is the same for a 150 wide and 180 ( 6' x 24" deep)....I have about 120 lbs in my tank now, and I feel its too much because I get sediment. Of course its all personal preference and its just a suggestion. You can always add the gravel in steps, and you can see if 100 lbs is enough for you. I bet it is but it does depend on the type of gravel....

Thanks for the help.
