Hey Guy's,

I'm looking at getting some Cherry Shrimp but want to make sure my intended set-up is OK before I buy.

10 Gallon tank with in-built wet dty filter.
50W Fluval Tronic heater.

The 10G is currently barebottom and is cycled as it's growing out some bristlenose, the filter inlet has sponge covering it. Tank has been running for 5-6 months.
Im going to be buying some new gravel, using some plants from my 55G planted.

The plants and filter are already well established and the only new thing will be the gravel.

*How many should I get to start with? I was thinking of 25-30, hopefully even more??
*Will I need to get a heater guard to protect the shrimp?
*Will I be OK to move the bristlenose out and get some Cherry Shrimp??
*Is 76 OK for temp?

Thanks,
Craig

i keep cheeries

everytihng there sounds fine.

just make sure the intake on the filter is covered properly as shrimp fry are very small

i would remove the bristlenose as it would eat algae which is what the shrimps will live off

as for plants try and get some moss in there as well as the shrimp constantly graze on it and they also use it to hide in whe shedding and spawning.

its upto you how many you start with but i can nvere undestand people who buy loads. they breed like mad.

my latest tank was a test to see how quick they breed. i started it 3 1/2 months ago with 20 very small shrimp and now im over run with them

just noticed you say your using at 10gallon tank.

i read somewhere on the net about people trying to bree in 10g tanks and struggling. apparntly 20g is required to breed. but my lfs keep crystal reds in a 5g tank and they are breeding slowly so im not sure

i use a 20g for breeding them ad have been doing for about a yer now

I will say it's fine for that size tank as long filtration is proper. I am keeping my cherries at a range of temp from 23'C to 28'C without problem. You can intro 10 first and then observe for a few days and see if the shrimps are doing well in there. If they are doing well, you can add more into it.

I do not have fish in my shrimp tanks for some how I notice the fish will compete with the shrimps for food and the shrimps always lose out...

But they will be fine alone as a all shrimp community tank.:)

Just a rough idea what I mean is provide a bigger space for them to roam about.
