I would like to start setting up my tank for my upcoming ATF and have a few questions.

First will be regarding current.

Ok i get to know that ATF prefer current in the water so today I went and bought something called wave maker with 10000Litre/H

The length of my tank is around 115'', when I put this wave maker at center end of my tank, I cant really feel much different when i put my hand into the water at the other end.

But when I direct it to surface, it did create lots of wave and seems create more current on the surface.

So now Im in dilemma with this few options(All of them will be located at one end):

1) At the center, direct to the surface

2) At the center, horizontally

3) At the center, direct at the bottom.

4) At the center, direct to the side

Which position is ideal for ATF?

Second: Salt

Should I add salt to my water? I heard it can increase the immune system of the fish, prevent decease etc.

What im really curious about is the ability to kill the bad bacterial(pathogen) and keep the good one that I needed for my nitrogen cycle.

Third: Good and Bad bacterial

From my limited knowledge on this area, it is almost impossible to keep the bad bacterial away without sacrificing the good one too.
And I assume it is the same as preventing bad bacterial from invading your aquarium 100%.

So I wonder, is there away to get rid/reduce bad bacterial that already exist in my tank without sacrificing the good one?

The owner of the fish store told me that good bacterial will kill bad bacterial which Im skeptic with.

Thanks alot for all your time in advance, it is much appreciated !

First question:

2500 gph is not nearly strong enough to turn a 100"+ aquarium into a river. Check out the tunz river series if you really want it.

Second question no idea, but they are freshwater so I doubt it unless they are sick.

Third question. Bacteria doesn't kill bacteria, that's silly. However bacteria can out compete bacteria, since the good stuff will be fed nutrients (aka fish poop) it'll thrive and the bad stuff would starve. However it's still better to start with a clean, and them cycled aquarium.

Thanks for your input! How about I add another one? or two? Have any suggestion as to where to locate?

If you haven't done so yet, read the sticky. It'll answer most if your questions.

Yea I've read countless of times. Having dream of both the version of guide as well. Thats the ideal tank however my current tank cannot have so much features yet.

Btw anyone used water pump to substitute wave maker? Its seem to have alot more impact.

My vote would be at one end so it would be pushing water down the entire tank.

Hmm I will have one at the end, and another one somewhere close to the middle and alter the current into zig zag motion. Will see setup my ATF most comfortable with.

Thanks for your input ya! Have a nice day :D

A zig zag motion won't do anything but kill the flow by making the water crash into each other. A laminar flow is ideal because it functions as something if a fish treadmill.

I like using water pumps in a river setup. Put the intake and outflow at exact opposite ends of the tank and point them at each other. They'll create a nice steady flow through.

If for whatever reason that osny enough, add some power heads. In your situation, I'd run a 5k or so gph pump with a pair of Hydor Koralia Magnum 8 power heads near the surface at the same side as the outflow to give surface agitation.

Thanks alot for such a wonderful idea :D ! I'll set up the current for my ATF while getting the Barbs to eat hikari food stick so that they are ready to be a teacher for my ATF :D. Once again thank you !
