Hello people,
I hope some experts here can give me some advice. Currently I have a 10 gallon tank and a 20 gallon tall tank. I had the 10 gallon for about 6 months now and the 20 gallons about 3 months. Both had Tom's Dive Clean submersible filters - 85 Dive Power and 125 Dive Power for the bigger tank. Both been serving me without any problem at all. However, I switched the standard filter foam that came with it to , Seachem matrix, Sera's Super Carbon (this is larger pellets - so, it won;t need another bag to hold them in the cartridge) and the in larger tank, I substitute the middle cartridge with one of those open cell foam used in Ehein system. Oh, I had a non woven filter sandwich put on top of the cartridge that houses the carbon to filter out larger wastes and solids. This works fine. I change the carbon every month or 1.5 about there. And wash out and clean the rest of the cartridges. I use Seachem Prime for neutralizing chloramine and chlorine.
Had a pair of double black veiled angelfish. They had been spawning like nobody business
. Almost without fail every 11 - 13 days. That is why I had a 10 gallon tanks. Had given away half of the last spawn. Now, I have 16 teenagers - 4 months old in the 10 gallon with the spotted leopard plecos (and this is growing big, 3", when I got it, now, it is almost 8"). And it is getting very domesticated. It will come to the surface and float belly up and I can drop food into the mouth directly. Or if I am holding the algae wafer, it will come right up to my finger and start eating away.
The 20 gallon houses, the mated pair and now, another probably 70 fries which is a month old. The good thing is the mated pair got used to me even changing the tank water when they have their eggs on the giant anubias leaf. Even now, they are still very protective of these fries. I still do change water almost everyday whenever I am around. Especially on the 10 gallon tank which houses the plecos...this guy **** a lot !!! I keep this tank bare except for small anubia plant tied to a drift wood. While the 20 gallon has gravel with 2 giant anubias.
So, now, I am getting a customized tank made to 3.5 ft x 1.5ft x 3ft (ht). It will probably cost me about US300 here. Which probably can house slightly over 100 gallon water. I have been taking look at some sump system on standard tank/cabinet set - I don;t like it. Cost a ton and takes up a lot of space with the sump tank. Still prefer a submersible filter/pump, like what I do on the two tanks. However, I cannot seemed to fine any submersible filter that can handle over 100 gallon....or should I put two of the Tom's Dive Power that can handle 55 gallon ? If I cannot find any other option, I may do it.
Googling internet seemed to come up with only Magnum 350 Pro. Anyone got experience with this ? Or is there any other type of submersible filters that is trustworthy that can handle my tank size ? I intend to transfer the angel fish and plecos over. Maybe also jsut let the baby fries grow up inside as well. They had laid eggs again a week ago, when I was away but my friend told, the eggs were gone the next day. But the fries are alive and well. I live in Singapore and don;t need any heater. Would appreciate some advice on the filter systems (except for sump) for a 100 gallon tank.
Thanks a lot.
Ken
