HI everyone, I am new to the the forum but have been checking it out for awhile. I recentley just purchased a 125 gallon tank with 2 rena xp3, 2 heaters, and a whole mess of lava rock. I just built a stand for it and have the tank in place. I am currentley leaning towards doing a SA cichlid tank. Do I need to run both filters to properly turn over the tank. It has a flow rate of 350 GPH. The filters did not come with any filtration media, and there are several different ones for each canister, so I am a little confused.

I would the 350gph is flow rate w/o media or waste...So I would run both...I'm trying to understand your question "different ones for canister"....?

Hi and Welcome MFK. My xp3 came with 4 sponges for fisrt section, media stars for second section, charcoal pad and fine floss disc for the top and final setion. I added some ceramic rings with the rena media stars myself for mid section and some fine filter floss for the top. I would use both depending on the amount of fish your going to stock.

i would run them both. i run an xp3 and a emperor 400 on mine. use one for biological and the other for chemical. also keep the bottom foam in both of them. goodluck

Sorry I didn't make that clear, There are several differen't types of filteration media that rena offers. 20 and 30 ppi foam, micro-filtration pad, Bio-chem Zorb, Nitra Zorb, Phos Zorb, Activated Carbon, Bio-chem Stars, ceramic rings. Which ones do I need for the for the biological filter, and which do i need for the chemical filter?

Thanks:popcorn:

I have 2 each of foam in mechanical bottom section, boichem stars in the middle biofilter, activated carb pad and fine floss for top chemical
