Dont have rays but i would figure out the stock first and add them at the same time. Easier than introducing new cichlids into an established tank where your oscars or other cichlids would have established territories already

Would maybe go for mini marbles or hystrix rays. Stay smaller...

Don't mm and Hystrix max out around same size as retic?? That's my understanding. I own Hystrix and have had mm.

Personally I'd suggest Hystrix or mm, much easier to get feeding and have success with than retic. Prettier also!

You will have to pass on keeping rays if you are in Florida.

Depends on the genes i suppose but I have seen retics 18"-24" range on several occasions. Mini marbles are a max of 10"-12" and most hystrix are the same from what I have seen.
Retics really are not a starter ray imo they are generally wild caught and are not normally healthy. I would try to find a breeder on here or locally that is selling cb minis or hystrix pups...
