I'm gonna be setting up a 300 gallon here in the next month or so and was hoping for some advice in stocking. I haven't picked up the tank yet, but it has an overflow and a wet/dry filter with sump, so I'm not sure what the total gallons with sump will be.

My current 125 gal will be going into this 300 gallon. The 125 currently houses an 8" female JD, an 8" Gold Severum, a 5" Firemouth, a 9" Common Pleco, a Gold Gourami that was too aggressive for my community tank, 4 Silver Dollars, 2 Pictus Cats, and a lone Bala Shark. I will also be adding an EBJD and Raphael Catfish that I am keeping in a 55 at the moment. There is also a school of Tiger Barbs in the 55 which I may try to add, but I'm not sure how that would turn out.

As for new stock, I would like to add some additional cichlids and would like your opinions on Green Terrors, Uarus, Salvinis, Acaras, Festivums, and Geophagus. Heck, even though I said I never would, maybe even an Oscar. If you have any other ideas feel free to mention them as well!

I'd also like to add some other non cichlid species. I'll probably add three more Bala Sharks to give the one that was given to me some company. I was also considering a school of clown loaches. I'd also like some opinions on Bichirs, Black Ghost Knife, and Headstanders and if you think they would be compatible with the other fish I have mentioned.

In my dreams I would get a Stingray. However, I've had my Pleco for over a year now and while he's just a Common I've become attached to him. From what I've heard Plecos and Stringrays don't tend to mix and I just don't think I want to give my Pleco up.... and I don't need any more tanks! :)

Thanks!

you got the stocking idea right maybe add a few more sevs, uara's a few sorts of geo;s
acaras, gymneo's festivum

Man you can't have one lone Bala :( . Get him 2 more friends. You will be happy you did. I usew to love my Balas. They got freekin huge and were flawless.

A few Vieja/paratheraps would be nice. They get big, but its not like you are short on space.

Clown loaches would be cool; maybe a dozen or so.

also I'm not sure how it will work out if you mix aggressive cichlids with ones that aren't quite so nasty.

large group of geos would be good, and since the tank is large, I would add the salvinis and other more aggressive species, but maybe try not to have pairs of those

a CK would go in there. Get some more balas too dude. They thrive and are happier with some friends. I used to love my 4/16 inch balas in my 250gallon tank.
