Curious on everyone's thoughts/experience on fish room filtration. I am debating between a central sump setup and a compressor with foam filters. If history is any indicator my fish purchases will be somewhat impulsive and varied. I will be breeding medium to large new world cichlids mainly, with a host of odd ball fish. All of this will just be for fun although i will sell/trade the fry on here and other forums as i get going.

....if curious on my background: keeping fish for about 30 years. Spent the last 10 doing salt mainly growing out coral and had a small commercial operation. Totally burned out on it, and i feel stressed just looking at the salt tanks at the lfs lol. Have managed and set up aquarium stores and systems in the past, and had a large fish room/cichlid breeding setup in college 20 years ago or so. I'm trying to plan a set up so i can expand my hobby and buy whatever fish tweak my fancy. Will focus on low maintenance wherever possible, ie plan on doing a drip system with overflows for auto water changes.

I chose to use HMF filters or sponge filters and a central air pump for my small fish room,, easier to install, maintain and it isolates each tank to avoid problems with illness and infection.
