I am trying to set up some fry tanks, and I have a plan. I wasnt sure if this would work, and if it would, how exactly could I go about doing it...

*I have a 40 gallon breeder...
*Can I put 2 seperaters in it and use it for fry??
*If so, would I need to put a sponge filter in each section??

(I figures this might save a little room, rather than having a bunch of 10 gallons...??)

You can but make sure it is able to hold water. Some 40 breeders are made as reptile cages so they MAY lack the support or sealant to contain the water. Other than that, I would say it'd be fine, just make sure you have it cycled before the babies go in :)

If the partitions go all the way to the bottom and the water level is below the top of each partition then yes, you'll need sponges. Why not just get some 10 gallon tanks?

I am working on it.. I have one... just dont want to pay full price for a ten gallon tank. I already have the 40 gallon breeder, so i was thinking of ways to save money, and use what I had...

I might have missed it, but, What kind of fry we talking bout?

I would set up a bare bottom tank with a heater, a sponge filter and/or a canister filter and a extra air pump/ air stone.

Use plastic canvas as a fry divider. It has small little holes in it, allows water movement, but fry usually can't get through.

If it's a 40 gal, you can probably divide it into 3-4 sections.

Well, little change of plans... hubby wants to keep the darn upside down catfish, so she will be going into the 40 gallon breeder. I am just going to try to track down some used 10 gallons now I sappose... I have one ready, so hopefully that will be enough for atleast another month...
