Setting up a new filter

so im going to cycle this new AQ 70 to put on my 10gal to start growing out some fish .. i want it to be ready before i add it to my tank so i just stuck it on my 150 ... how long should i let it run on it before i put it into the 10 gal and dont have to worry about a cycle on the 10 gal.

Why don't you just take some gravel and water from the 150, and put it in the 10. Then take some media from the filter on the 150, and put it in the ac70. No cycle needed.

no gravel in the 150 .. and i dont feel like taking the Fx5 apart to get media out of it .. so i figured i could just use the filter on the 150 go get it started .. i am going to use the water from the 150 in the 10 but no gravel to move over ...

I have done this before. I normally run the new filter on an existing tank for a week or so before moving it to its intended tank. Never had a problem doing it this way.

use ammonia and/or seachem stability.. thats what i did.. works great and quickly!!
