The obvious answer to me seems yes, but I figure I would ask anyway.

I have a 55 gallon tank with a Fluval 304 on it right now.

I have a 44 pentagon I need to set up and I have an aquaclear 300 on it. If I hang the Aquaclear on the 55 gallon for a month, and then fill half the 44 with water from the 55 (and obviously top off both tanks), I shouldn't need to cycle the tank, should I?

Do I need to wait a month, or will the Aquaclear seed with enough bacteria sooner than that?

A couple weeks would probably do the trick.

You can skip the old water if you want. There isnt much beneficial bacteria in the water column

I just swapped my 75g to a 90g with a 40g sump.

All I used were a few sponge filters which were in the parent tank for about a month.

New substrate, new filters (sump) everything new.

Transition went well. I acclimated the fish, no deaths, no bacterial bloom, no signs of stress.

The 90g only ran about an hour to get the temp stable before I made the switch

You'll definitely be OK. Take your time and acclimate the fish correctly.

Sponge filters are also fantastic for this. I have 3 running that are all ready to be easily moved; no hassle whatsoever

If you can get a bottle of instant biological bacteria = instant setup for any tanks!

True, but I personally feel more comfortable with the traditional methods when given the choice :P

Setup many tanks using only some seeded filter media and/or substrate from a seasoned tank.

No problems so far, just keep an eye on the levels and don't stock too heavy or add new stock to the existing right away.
