I just purchased a 150 gallon tank with stand and acrylic box setup for sump filtration with a few extras. Setting up for a freshwater aquarium.
The tank is pre-drilled at the bottom and has a built-in overflow chamber in the corner. Included was a standpipe with bulkhead and also a 90 degree elbow, from my understanding should be used in a t fitting to silence the water flow..?

The acrylic box has the dimensions of approximately 48"x12"x24" = 60 gallons for a total volume of 210 gallons. It is drilled near the bottom, looks like 1.5"-2", unsure why this is?

Since this is my first large aquarium project I need some help with design. I'm unsure what else is required for the overflow system. How many dividers should I install and where and what media should I use. I received plenty of bio balls with the deal and have some lava rocks laying around. Was thinking about housing a refugium, is this a good idea?
Thanks for checking out my thread and any input would be much appreciated. :)

In all honesty, I would use that "sump" as a holding tank or a water reserve.

You won't be needing a refugium for a freshwater tank.

I would run a Durso standpipe if you are concerned about noise. As for the sump, a DIY (do it yourself) sump from a rubbermaid tub and some plastic drawers are all you really need.

Enter that into the search bar and you'll strike gold.
